I’m Taking WWDC Easy This Year
2022 is a good year to do that!
Every year WWDC comes around, and as an iOS developer I feel the pressure to watch videos. Every video. As fast as possible. They’re all available on the Apple Developer App and can be seen Netflix-style (one after another until sleep). I’ve done that before. It was a mistake.
This year it’s going to be different, and here is why.
The pressure
Slack seems to have messages all the time about the latest new feature in Swift or SwiftUI. However, having just stepped off a transatlantic flight I think I need to sleep. Moving house and changing job? These might be important things that I need to use my free-time for.
I also feel spending longer than about an hour each day (in addition to a full-time job) can impact my health. It gets hard, and although I can do long hours (I completed a Masters while working and writing article) it’s just not great for me long-term. This isn’t the whole story though, rather there is no real reason to rush through things just as they release. Let’s take a think about this.
The release of iOS16 will be in the fall. There isn’t pressure to use new features as even then not all users will upgrade (you might be free to leave all iPhone7 users behind, but generally I feel that would…
